The Inside is What Counts
Embracing the True You
This article explores the idea that our inner selves inevitably reflect on the outside, despite our efforts to hide them. You've likely heard the phrase "wearing your heart on your sleeve," which suggests that our deepest emotions cannot be concealed.
Even the greatest actors can't mask internal pain indefinitely. Smiles and laughter might temporarily cloak inner turmoil, but the pain persists. Substances like alcohol or drugs offer only fleeting relief, while medications must be consistently maintained for conditions like depression. Why? Because we often neglect to address the root causes within our hearts. In religious texts, it’s said that some honor God with their words while their hearts remain distant. God, or whatever higher power you believe in, understands what lies within us all. We often run from our true selves, drowning our identities in addictions or distractions, yet true healing requires confronting our inner reality.
Before my beloved mother passed away, she told my wife and me, “It’s time to move on.” These words were hard to hear but resonate deeply with me today. I faced a choice: remain numb after her loss or cherish her memory and embrace the life ahead. Though difficult, this decision reflects a choice we all encounter in dealing with our true selves. Remaining emotionally stagnant or overly engrossed in work would have deprived me of precious moments with my extraordinary wife and daughter, moments I could never reclaim.
Take a moment to examine your inner self. Share your pain with a trusted confidant and move forward. You have the power to do this and must do so to reach your full potential. Choosing to dwell in the past only robs you of the future that awaits.
Here’s wishing you continued success on your journey,
