We tend to notice things that align with our beliefs and worldview. This explains why, when you're feeling down, negative experiences seem to multiply.
Real challenges exist, but we often draw harmful generalizations from them, such as "Life is hard" or "It always happens to me." It’s important to recognize that bad things also happen to those who are generally happy.
Happy individuals aren’t always those with perfect lives. We all know people who have stable relationships, good health, and financial security, yet still feel discontented. True happiness often comes from learning to manage emotions, modify moods, and choose reactions wisely. Language is the main tool they use for this purpose.
Our beliefs are heavily influenced by what others tell us, especially when repeated often or convincingly. Consider how many advertising slogans you’ve believed despite better judgment. Similarly, people may internalize negative labels, like "lazy" or "worthless," due to repeated exposure.
The key is to choose beliefs that empower you. By consistently telling yourself something, you'll eventually believe it. However, if your mindset is, "I’ll try it, but I know it won’t work," it likely won’t?"because that’s what you’re affirming.
Instead, craft affirmations that uplift your spirit. You can start with phrases like, "I now give myself permission to celebrate my strength, my uniqueness, and my precious humanity."
Repeating this affirmation once may not yield immediate results. But say it several times daily over weeks, and those limiting beliefs will begin to fade.
Consider the technique suggested by Sandy Forster in "How To Be Wildly Wealthy Fast." With each repetition, emphasize a different word in your affirmation. For example, stress the first word the first time, the second word the second time, and so on.
An affirmation with 15 words might take just a few minutes to complete. This process disrupts negative thought patterns and elevates your mood. Practice this multiple times a day, especially when faced with negativity, and you’ll soon start to feel different.
As your beliefs evolve, so will your perspective. What once seemed invisible will become clear. This approach is simple and effective. Often, what blocks your path to success isn’t the complexity or scale of your goals, but a small, crucial piece of understanding you’re missing.
The question remains: Are you willing to give it a try?
