Many people I've met in life have a negative outlook, burdened by every little thing and carrying the weight of the world. I was once like them until a pivotal change at the age of twenty-two reshaped my perspective.
Until that age, I constantly felt sorry for myself, believing that my friends had it all while my life was a relentless struggle. Trapped in a cycle of negativity, I yearned for a way out.
One afternoon at work, a conversation with a colleague, who was around fifty-three, changed everything. He candidly observed:
"You're always so negative, aren't you?"
His words were a revelation. I hadn't realized how deeply I'd been entrenched in my negative mindset. He continued:
"You rarely smile, you're pessimistic about most things, and it seems like you're constantly stressed."
Then, he shared advice that transformed my life:
"When you feel down, read the newspapers or watch the news. You'll soon see that you're actually one of the fortunate ones."
I wasn't much into reading or following the news before this, but I decided to try. The stories I encountered were eye-opening, revealing challenges far greater than my own. It made me see that my worries were minor in comparison and that I needed to appreciate each day, focusing on the positives in life.
