In the past, I was one of those who appeared perpetually gloomy. I had countless worries and was unhappy about many aspects of my life, frequently feeling sorry for myself. Reflecting on it now, I can laugh at how pitiable I once was.
A turning point came when a new colleague, Stuart, joined my workplace. Initially, I thought Stuart didn’t have much going for him; I won’t delve into personal details, but his life didn’t inspire envy. Nevertheless, Stuart and I became good friends, and we often had lunch together. I would meet him in the canteen at 1 PM, expecting to dwell in my gloomy thoughts until his arrival. But Stuart always showed up with a radiant smile. Our conversations were filled with his infectious enthusiasm for sports and films, never laced with negativity.
One day, it hit me: if Stuart, who seemingly had little, could remain positive, happy, and continually smiling, why couldn’t I?
This realization marked the beginning of a new era in my life?"one filled with positivity, gratitude, and, most importantly, plentiful smiles.
