Understanding the difference between life and lifestyle can be quite tricky. One clear distinction is that a lifestyle is visible and external, while life encompasses internal aspects. Lifestyle includes your relationships, possessions, environments, and how you spend your resources. In contrast, life is defined by your beliefs, values, commitments, dreams, and vision. Choosing a lifestyle before defining your life can lead to a hollow existence. However, if you prioritize life, your lifestyle will naturally support it.
Most of us already have an established lifestyle and a default life, meaning some redesign may be necessary. By prioritizing your life and then reshaping your lifestyle, you can create a more authentic existence. Sometimes, your current lifestyle may not align with the life you desire. In other cases, only minor adjustments are needed. There are those whose lifestyles perfectly align with their lives, though they are rare. For instance, my father and mother consciously structured their lives around their spiritual values from the start of their marriage.
Interestingly, earlier generations, like my parents, experienced transformation differently, often without the plethora of resources we have today. The availability of e-courses, teleclasses, and literature now encourages people to pursue meaningful and fulfilling lives.
As we grow, we scrutinize our lives for alignment with our values. When discrepancies surface, it's common to feel discouraged. We often blame ourselves for not knowing better. The first step is to accept that lack of awareness, and then ask, "What now?" It requires courage to aim for integrity, aligning your lifestyle with your higher self.
Some might ignore these inconsistencies, pretending they don’t matter. However, once you recognize them, inaction can make things worse, leading to dissatisfaction. Discrepancies erode your peace, like water gradually wearing down rock. Your life may regress instead of progressing. If that’s too steep a price, consider choosing your path wisely.
