It's crucial to pause and ask vital questions before proceeding down unfamiliar paths.

Article Body:

"Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action." - Benjamin Disraeli

"There is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action." - Johann von Goethe

"Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold -- but so does a hard-boiled egg." ?" Anonymous

The bridge between inaction and achievement is initiative. In our homogenized society, it's a quality that's often missing. Employers building their businesses consistently seek individuals with initiative?"the ability to think and act.

Years ago, while managing a hotel, I addressed unnecessary off-duty calls from staff. Missing lemons or staff not showing up were just a few issues. The first weekend after my talk was call-free but eventful: the kitchen burned down. My focus on reducing distractions overlooked the need to foster problem-solving initiative.

To be a visionary, one must cultivate initiative through education. Ignorance is stagnant intelligence, as is vision without initiative. Develop a personal growth plan, addressing educational needs. Read when you're still and listen when in motion. Make the best use of your time with motivational tapes, biographies, and networking with fellow visionaries.

Serving someone else's vision is a great way to develop your own.

As a coach, I'm dedicated to building both my practice and others'. I provide guidance on life issues, strategic planning, vision, and values, along with support on a personal level. You don't need all the answers to succeed, but a positive attitude and a willingness to learn are essential.

Successful business people understand that time is a non-renewable resource. Success in business often allows for more leisure and quality resources. Spending time with those who enjoy an improved quality of life can provide new perspectives on success. More wealth and possessions aren't everyone's goals; many are driven by purpose rather than success.

Defining Focus:

Ask yourself:

- What stirs your emotions?
- What would compel you to move countries?
- Who would you like as a mentor if possible?
- With all resources available, what would you pursue right now?

"Write the bad things that are done to you in sand, but write the good things that happen to you on a piece of marble." - Arabic Proverb

"Do to others what you would have them do to you." - Bible, Matthew 7:12

A Chinese proverb states, "The hardest step of a long march is the first."

Focusing on needs rather than assets paralyzes us into inaction. Start where you can. Too many options breed procrastination. Narrow your choices to sharpen your focus.

Recently, in Africa, a simple choice at a drink stand highlighted the issue. I could either drink a warm cherry Coke or not. Back home, an endless array of options at the supermarket frustrated me. Too many choices aren't always beneficial, especially when the outcome is crucial.

Building Vision:

Vision requires selflessness. Being stingy with your vision and resources leads to isolation. I've seen people with abundant resources but no vision lose everything. Vision attracts resources whether you support it or not. A generous attitude is a great starting point. Most genuine visionaries begin by supporting others' visions while defining their own.

Responsibility vs. Ownership:

Understanding the difference between responsibility and ownership in a vision is important. You can't own what you're entrusted with. Holding on too tightly can stifle vision. Be a responsible leader, letting growth occur naturally. Those who join your vision also need a sense of partnership.

Maintaining Focus:

Vision is like a living entity, requiring care and attention. Treat resources with responsibility, allowing growth. If confusion arises, revisit your vision's origins:

- Does it align with personal values?
- Will it achieve my objectives?
- Will it strengthen or weaken core strengths?
- What's my motive?

Remember, nurturing vision requires safeguarding it against hindrances. Instead of seeking ways to make vision grow, focus on removing obstacles. By doing so, you'll give it the life it needs to flourish.
