Are Your Goals Truly Exciting?
Introduction
With fall in the air, it’s the ideal moment to reflect on your future and start crafting the life you desire. Many people tend to leave their lives to chance, neglecting to write down their goals and make plans to achieve them, which can be a significant oversight. Imagine going on vacation without a destination?"most wouldn’t dream of it, yet they leave their futures to fate.
The Power of Setting Goals
Written goals can transform your life. Take some time to envision the life you want a year from now. While you can set shorter or longer-term goals, consider starting with these questions: What do you want in your relationships, health, career, and finances? What experiences do you crave, and what do you aspire to do, be, or have? Identifying and documenting these desires dramatically increases your chances of achieving them.
Are Your Goals Inspiring?
Assess whether your goals make you eager to start each day. I recently found myself feeling uninspired, even bordering on depression?"something unusual for me. Upon reflection, I realized I had made some of my goals more "realistic," which ultimately left me unmotivated. Lowering expectations might seem practical, but it can lead to a lack of inspiration.
Consider this: a goal like making enough money just to "pay the bills" isn’t very exciting, is it? It’s unlikely to make you jump out of bed with enthusiasm. So, I set new, ambitious goals that truly excited me, goals that felt beyond my reach. Now, envisioning the achievement of these goals invigorates me.
Goal-Setting Exercise
Let's create some invigorating goals for the coming year with this simple exercise:
1. Be Specific: Write down everything you want to do, be, have, and share for the year and beyond. Instead of vague statements like "be thinner," specify "I feel and look great weighing 175 pounds." Be precise about financial goals, too.
2. Positive Affirmations: Phrase each goal as a positive affirmation in the present tense (e.g., "I am," "I have"). Address key areas like spirituality, health, relationships, career, and finances.
3. Motivations and Emotions: Note why each goal matters and how achieving it will make you feel.
4. Immediate Actions: Identify at least one small step you can take right now toward each goal.
Daily Action
Read your list of goals every day, focusing on the emotions they evoke. The more vividly you can imagine and feel these emotions, the faster you'll attract your goals. Your subconscious mind doesn’t distinguish between reality and imagination?"so fake it until you make it.
After reading your goals and feeling the emotions associated with them, ask yourself, "What is the next action I can take to move toward this?" Repeat this daily and watch your life transform.
