Action Achieves Goals
Building Dreams Through Action
Talking about dreams, goals, and a bright future is fun and easy. However, as wise individuals recognize, turning these dreams into reality requires much more than words. Dreams need to be grounded in action, not just talk.
Wisdom from History
In the western film "Broken Arrow," Cochise, the insightful Apache chief, tells the American scout (played by James Stewart): "To talk of peace is easy; to live it is not easy. Are you a child that you thought peace would come easy?"
Similarly, Garibaldi, the famed Italian soldier and patriot, echoed this sentiment: "Give me the ready hand rather than the ready tongue."
The Challenge of Action
While it's easy to talk, plan, and make promises, the true challenge lies in following through. Executing plans and keeping promises is difficult.
For instance, a top instructor in my martial art, Choi Kwang-Do, shared an example. UK instructors who visit Atlanta return full of enthusiasm. Yet, faced with real-world challenges, like rainy weather in the UK, their inspiration often wanes.
This phenomenon is common at seminars that inspire dreams. Participants leave motivated but need to act immediately and consistently, or their dreams will fade. Talk is cheap.
Learning from Experience
I recall the Charles Atlas promise: buying his course would prepare you for any bully. Yet, many didn't practice, and bullies continued their ways.
Children can be forgiven for giving up when they face hard work. However, adults should know better and think twice before making promises that require effort.
Value in Delivering More
Promises can motivate us to act. It's also rewarding to exceed our promises. Businesspeople who deliver more than expected often retain lifelong customers. Internet marketers excel at this, offering bonuses and delivering more even after purchase, fostering lasting goodwill.
Celebrating Achievements
Cochise once said, "For each day of peace, we will pile one stone upon another." He valued daily victories and keeping score.
Affirmation and visualization advocates suggest celebrating victories in advance. This mindset can align the universe with our goals and boost our confidence, unleashing our full potential.
Ultimately, Cochise achieved peace, understanding the effort required. Meanwhile, Geronimo chose a path of continued struggle.
By embracing action, we can build the future we envision.
