Stuttering Self-Help
Introduction
Hello, I’m Stephen Hill from Birmingham, England. I began stuttering when I was about four or five years old. In response, my parents enrolled me in various speech therapy programs, both group sessions and one-on-one. The strategies I learned to manage or overcome my stutter were diverse.
Early Experiences
My initial diagnosis was as a "preschool stutterer," a common term used by speech therapists and pathologists. My parents were assured that many children outgrow stuttering, but I was one of the exceptions.
As time went on, I joined the "childhood stutter" class. I continued with speech therapy, engaging in different activities and games designed to improve speech.
Eventually, I found myself in the "adult stutter" category. It was then I realized that traditional speech therapy wasn’t working for me.
Finding My Own Way
I decided to take matters into my own hands and develop my own self-help methods. Interestingly, I noticed that during certain situations, like when I was relaxed or even after a drink, my speech improved significantly.
A New Beginning
After a year of self-directed efforts, I successfully overcame my stutter. This transformation inspired me to help others achieve fluency as well.
Helping Others
I now offer various stuttering therapies, primarily one-on-one courses in Birmingham, England. These include three-day and five-day programs tailored to individual needs.
For those who prefer a self-help approach, I provide a 70-minute DVD with an accompanying booklet, "Course Notes." These resources detail the techniques I teach and the practice methods that can make these techniques a natural part of daily speech. Feedback from people who have used these materials has been overwhelmingly positive.
Through my journey and the resources I offer, I aim to empower others to overcome their stuttering challenges and achieve confident communication.
