Background
I'm Steve Hill, born in Birmingham, England's second-largest city. Life in Birmingham is bustling, and while the crime rate is relatively high, I'm proud to call myself a "Brummie" and have a deep affection for the city.
As a child, my parents took us on holidays to Devon's South West coast, specifically a serene place called Brixham. Unlike Birmingham, Brixham was quiet, relaxed, and friendly. Up until I was sixteen, I relished these holidays and often dreamed of living there one day.
Turning Dreams into Reality
Initially, I thought I’d wait until retirement to make this dream a reality. However, at twenty-three, an opportunity arose when I was offered a voluntary redundancy package from the insurance company where I'd been working since leaving school. This was a perfect chance to leave a job I had long considered leaving and rethink my future.
At that time, I had been in a relationship for two years and had shared my dream of moving to Brixham with my girlfriend. She resonated with my passion for the area.
The Decision to Move
I realized there was no sense in waiting until retirement. Life is unpredictable and short, and I might not reach retirement age. My girlfriend was enthusiastic about the move, and so we decided to make it happen. Living in Devon was wonderful, and I rarely missed my past life, except for my friends and family.
Returning Home
After a few years in Brixham, my father fell seriously ill. I frequently traveled to visit him in the hospital and eventually decided to move back to Birmingham to spend more time with my parents.
Conclusion
I have no regrets about making the move to Devon when I did, and I plan to return one day. Life is about living fully and turning dreams into reality.
