A Reader's Letter:
"I rarely feel hopeless, but here I am. I'm a single mom raising two teenage boys. Last year, after my youngest was assaulted on his way to school, I left a stable job in television to start a marketing and PR business from home. Initially, I had two clients and was earning more than before. However, in March, one client and I parted ways due to differing expectations, cutting my income in half.
I’ve since found a new client, but they pay only a third of what the previous one did. Now, I’m deeply in debt. My account is overdrawn because another main client delayed their payment, which takes 24-72 hours to process. My ex’s child support is also late, and I can’t even buy groceries until the money comes in. I'm terrified of bouncing checks and being left with nothing.
I can't sleep, and my anxiety is overwhelming. Sometimes I think my kids might be better off with their dad, who can provide more financially than I can.
I don’t understand why I’m trapped in this poverty mindset. I have a meeting tomorrow with a potential client but can’t even prepare because I assume they won’t hire or pay me. I enter situations with high hopes, only for everything to disappoint.
In other areas, I’m doing well. My kids are brilliant and talented. I have no relationship or weight issues. It's only money that seems out of reach.
Honestly, I believe that money could bring me significant happiness right now. It would provide peace of mind, freedom, and the ability to live as I want. How can I escape this negative spiral?"
Rebecca's Response:
"Dear Reader,
Thank you for reaching out. I hope you’re feeling a bit better. I’ve been there too, and I remember repeating to myself, ‘I just want to feel good.’ Over time, I did, and now it’s my dominant feeling.
You’re quite an effective ‘attractor’?"consider how your thoughts about money are bringing more of the same challenges.
If I were coaching you, I'd suggest using the T-Tool. Take a piece of paper and draw a large 'T.' Label the left column 'I Don't Want' and the right column 'I Do Want.'
First, jot down everything you don’t want, based on your letter:
- I don’t want clients paying me late.
- I don’t want clients who can’t afford my worth.
- I don’t want child support to be late.
Pour all the negatives onto paper. Then, for each item, ask, "If I don’t want this, what do I want?" Write your desires in the right column.
After completing both sides, fold the paper and focus only on the 'I Do Want' list. Keep it visible. Envision having clients who enthusiastically pay what you deserve and child support arriving on time.
Concentrate your energy on what you desire. If negativity creeps in, remind yourself, 'I’ve dealt with that, and I want...'
The T-Tool is a fantastic Law of Attraction method for gaining clarity! Once you’re clear, what you desire is already on its way to you."
