The Ghost Cat in the Attic
Summary:
Not everyone believes in ghosts, but I do. This story is just one of my many encounters with the supernatural. Seeing a ghost is unforgettable, especially when you can actually touch it.The Ghost Cat in the Attic
This unusual but true story takes us back to when I was eight years old. My bus driver's wife had a kitten she wanted to give away, and I was thrilled to take her in. She was a black and white cat, the first I ever owned, and I named her Dozier. We formed a special bond; she followed me everywhere.
Our house had several cats, and we struggled to keep them out of the attic. Despite boarding up their entry points, Dozier always found a way in. A large rectangular hole in the corner of my bedroom ceiling became our secret spot. We played through that hole, and I'd feed her if I had food handy. She'd linger for hours, enjoying our time together.
We had Dozier for about a year. She had a litter of kittens, but just two weeks after, my grandfather found her dead on the road. Devastated, I learned he hadn’t buried her but tossed her over a hill. I was heartbroken, both by her death and his actions.
In the days after Dozier passed, I was in my room doing homework when I saw a black and white paw emerge from the ceiling hole. Without thinking, I reached out, relieved for the distraction. I played and petted her, forgetting she was gone. It wasn’t until I turned to find food for her that it hit me?"she was dead. I recoiled in shock, falling and hitting my head. Yet, there she was, looking at me from the hole, just as she always did.
I asked my mother to call the other cats outside, then invited her into my room. She saw Dozier too. I was frightened but realized that Dozier returned for two reasons: to say goodbye and to find peace.
The next day, determined to help her rest, I retrieved her remains from where my grandfather had discarded them and buried her properly in the hills. After that, I never saw her again. Her soul was finally at peace.
Seeing a ghost is one thing, but touching one is an experience you never forget. Many ghosts reach out to the living, seeking help to find their way to the other side.
