The University of Calicut was established on July 23, 1968, through Ordinance No. 5/68 of the Government of Kerala. This ordinance was later replaced by the Calicut University Act of 1975. Teacher Education Centers are spread across the five districts, and there are advanced computer science centers in 13 locations offering MCA, MSc Computer, and BSc IT courses. The Calicut University Institute of Engineering and Technology (CUIET) is located just 400 meters from Kohinoor on NH-17.
