I never imagined I'd say this, but I'm genuinely thankful for grammar. More specifically, I’m grateful for having learned it. As an author, I quickly realized I owe a lot to those formative years spent in grammar classes.

Do you recall those tedious grammar lessons? I certainly do. I remember memorizing the roles of nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, and adjectives, as well as the distinction between the subject and predicate of a sentence. Although I wasn’t exactly focused during those classes, the essentials of grammar somehow made their way into my mind, perhaps through sheer repetition.
Consider what our world might look like without grammar. It’s the backbone of clear communication. While we both know what a dog or a tomato is, imagine if sentences ending in periods were perceived as questions. Wouldn't that be bewildering? Picture my next novel written as, "Told Billy to Sarah loving a mother being a." Does that make sense? Not really, because it lacks proper English structure. We might infer that Sarah is speaking to Billy about loving being a mom, but without grammar, even the simplest ideas become a puzzle.
Do you enjoy a good book? Or relaxing with a movie? How about browsing the internet for news and facts? If so, then you should appreciate grammar. Proper grammar allows us to comprehend a book, follow a film’s script, and make sense of online content.
Still not convinced about the importance of grammar? Try conversing with jumbled sentences like the one above. It’s challenging to navigate a day when no one can understand each other’s thoughts or questions.
Thankfully, grammar ensures we communicate effectively, consistently arranging our words to convey clear meaning. So, be thankful for grammar; it truly has made your life significantly easier.
