About Las Vegas Academy
Founded in 1992 by the Las Vegas Public School District and local universities, Las Vegas Academy focuses on nurturing artistic and communicative talents. Located in a historic urban shopping area, it attracts students from across Clark County.
Students can major in dance, vocal music, instrumental music, international studies, piano, theater, theater technology, or visual arts. With an extended school day and a block schedule, students engage in academic courses every other day and major-specific classes daily.
This rigorous curriculum has earned the Academy numerous accolades, including recognition from the White House and several U.S. Senators. It's been honored by the International Network of Performing and Visual Arts Schools, labeled a STAR school, awarded three Grammy Signature School honors, and recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a New American High School and a U.S. Blue Ribbon School.
The Rigorous Journey of a Las Vegas Academy Student
Admission to Las Vegas Academy is competitive, requiring an audition and a strong GPA in standard academic subjects. Unlike typical area schools, students have 86-minute classes and an extended school day. This dedication pays off, with over 60% of graduates moving on to four-year universities.
The upcoming series of short plays by the theater and theater technology departments is one of many opportunities for Las Vegas Academy students to showcase their commitment and talent to the community.
