Article:
Across the United States, Americans are embracing recycling at home, work, and school, with paper recycling being a standout success. In 2005, a record-breaking 51.5 percent of all paper consumed in the country?"translating to 51.3 million tons?"was recycled. The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) aims to raise this number to 55 percent by 2012.
Everyone has a role to play. While recycling programs vary by community, newspapers, cardboard, direct mail, magazines, and catalogs are commonly accepted recyclables. Check with your local authorities to see what can be recycled in your area.
The AF&PA Recycling Awards honor exceptional efforts in paper recycling across individuals, businesses, communities, and schools. In 2006, the Awards expanded to include schools for the first time.
