Years ago, it was all about speed, skill, and style. Today, it’s about survival?"whether in the street, the park, or even at home.
The mugger possesses youth, aggression, and sometimes, the influence of drugs and a desperate need for money. I rely on my legal survival tools: the walking stick, the umbrella, and the Sjambok?"the 42-inch South African whip used for crowd control.
The only way I could survive a mugging, or if I were a woman, a potential assault, is with a powerful, drastic yet non-lethal weapon. But it must be legally permitted, not something on a prohibited list.
Forget relying solely on Martial Arts; they offer little help in life-or-death defense situations unless you're a 4th Dan Black Belt. At that level, the dynamics change, and the mugger would be at significant risk.
Achieving that level requires over ten years of dedicated, rigorous training. If you're sixteen, fit, and eager, I encourage you to join a club and work hard to reach that goal!
However, if you feel it's too late to take up such rigorous training, your best bet in a mugging situation is to defend yourself?"no, ATTACK!?"with a legally permissible weapon.
