The Sports Column
Summary:
This week has been a roller coaster for me, filled with highs, lows, and downright bizarre moments.

Article Body:
This week has been a mixed bag for me, with some truly great moments and a few disappointments.
The Good:
I struck gold at Pimlico, hitting the trifecta?"that’s definitely a win.
However, my Little League team didn’t fare as well, going 0-3 with Coach Reavy watching. That's unfortunate.
And Wednesday night? I heard my favorite, Elliot Yamin, was out of "American Idol," which made me realize I'd spent two months binge-watching 12 episodes straight. Let’s just say, lesson learned.
Thankfully, the world of sports provides its own share of highs, lows, and bizarre occurrences.
Highlights of the Week:
The Good:
Barry Bonds hit his 714th home run, a memorable moment for Tyler Snyder, the fan who caught it. No doubt, eBay?"or “Bay” Area?"fans might pay big bucks for such a historic ball. Tyler, soon to be wealthier thanks to Bonds, captured it perfectly when he said: "I hate that guy."
The NBA playoffs have been nothing short of thrilling. Even though my favorite part of basketball is the NBA draft, the fantastic series happening now have made the NHL strike seem almost forgettable. (Editor's Note: Kevin doesn’t get the OLN channel.)
After a rough patch, the Phillies finally broke their five-game losing streak.
The Bad:
Speaking of that losing streak, the Phillies finally won.
Cubs catcher Michael Barrett punched AJ Pierzynski after a home-plate collision. Unfortunately, Barrett may have injured his hand in the process.
NBC introduced the National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Normally great, if not for ESPN airing an endless loop of World Series of Poker tournaments across its channels. This would be exciting if the World Poker Tour and Celebrity Poker weren’t already saturating the airwaves with their relentless poker programming. It's overwhelming?"not because I dislike watching poker, but because I watch them all. I need my life back.
The Ugly:
Just one thing stands out...
Kobe’s outfit on "Inside the NBA" last Wednesday. Nothing quite says "street style" like a powder-blue sweater vest.

That wraps up this week's edition of The Sports Column. I'll try to dodge the TiVo poker marathon to focus on the top stories for next time. Until then, enjoy the action as it unfolds.
