Pool Tournament with Dr. Cue in Pueblo, Colorado
Experience the Excitement of Pueblo's Premier Billiards Event
Step into the vibrant atmosphere of Pueblo, Colorado's largest annual billiard tournament, featuring the renowned Dr. Cue, Tom Rossman. Here's a glimpse into the mid-tournament action at this thrilling event.
Unfolding Action at Classic Q
Sitting in the bustling Classic Q pool hall, it's almost 4 PM. I've been immersed in the excitement since 10:00 AM. Drawing a bye in the first round was a stroke of luck, and I secured a decisive 5-1 victory in my first match.
This tournament is fiercely competitive, drawing top players from Colorado Springs, Denver, and beyond. Among the competitors is the legendary Dr. Cue, adding an extra layer of excitement.
Now in its 13th year, the Dr. Cue Pool Tournament is Pueblo's most prestigious billiards event and a significant highlight in Colorado's pool calendar. With 85 participants, it surpasses last year’s turnout by one.
Tournament Structure and Intense Competition
The tournament follows BCA 8-ball rules, with matches played to five on the winner's side and four on the one-loss side. A coin flip determines the break for the first game, shifting to alternating breaks thereafter.
With a $40 entry fee, only the most skilled shooters participate. Precision is crucial?"missing a shot often means losing the game. As I like to say, "You miss, you lose."
The tables have fresh cloth, and the one I played on was exceptionally fast. I missed a crucial table run in the third game when my cue ball overran its mark, leaving me trapped behind the 8. Fortunately, my opponent couldn't solve the clusters in his path, giving me a chance to capitalize later.
Memorable Moments and Competitive Spirit
I won the initial coin flip and kicked off with a break and run. My opponent responded impressively, executing a stunning table-length Masse shot on the 8 ball, despite being blocked by one of my balls.
This tournament is packed with thrilling action, and I'll be sharing updates as it progresses. Stay tuned for more excitement!
To Your Billiards Success,
Ted
