Pool Hall Hangouts in Pueblo, Colorado
Discover the charm of spending time at a pool hall in Pueblo, Colorado, where the focus is on the game and not on alcohol.
A Nostalgic Pastime
During my younger years, I spent countless hours at pool halls in Pueblo, Colorado. While the town has numerous bars and billiard rooms, only a few truly epitomized the essence of a pool hall. These were places where the emphasis was solely on the game, without the distraction of alcohol, featuring only a selection of video games alongside the pool tables.
The Corner Cigar Store
Today, only one of these iconic establishments remains: the Corner Cigar Store. This venue is home to six 9-foot antique Brunswick tables. It became our regular gathering spot, where we played everything from one-pocket to ring 9-ball, a format involving three or more players, often with a little wager to spice things up.
I recall some gambling matches that extended late into the night and sometimes into the next day. I loved arriving early to practice before the competition began. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of wagering on a game of pocket billiards.
Life's Changes
Nowadays, with a busy schedule and family commitments, I don’t get to enjoy pool halls as often. My opportunities to play are mostly limited to league nights held in bars. However, I hope that one day, perhaps in retirement, I can rekindle my passion for spending days at the pool hall. For now, those fond memories sustain me.
Despite the passage of time, I believe my skills have only improved. If there's still good action to be found, it might even be profitable. Plus, playing in an alcohol-free environment is cost-effective when it comes to buying rounds?"hopefully, soda prices haven't inflated too much.
