Pool Billiards League Play: What League Do You Play?
Overview
Explore the vibrant world of pool billiards leagues in Southern Colorado, and share your own experiences from your local leagues.
Introduction
If you’re passionate about pool billiards, finding the right league can enhance your enjoyment of the game. I play on a BCA team every Thursday and participate in two APA teams on Tuesdays and Fridays.
APA League Experience
The APA league employs a handicapped system known as the APA Equalizer. During our Tuesday night 8-ball games, my skill level is a 7, the highest in this category. Recently, I faced a player ranked as a 3, which meant I needed to win 6 games before he won 2. I was leading 3-0 when I inadvertently pocketed the 8 ball with my cue ball. This gave him a chance, but I managed to secure the match, winning 6-1.
Although I’m ranked a 9 in APA 9-ball, I'm not currently on a 9-ball team. What’s your favorite pool game?
Friday Night APA League
Our Friday league is an all-star format where players compete head-to-head without handicaps, alternating between 8-ball and 9-ball. It’s a race to 7 wins, and the player who wins the initial lag chooses whether to break first or select the game to start.
Thursday BCA League
The Thursday BCA league follows a non-handicapped format. It’s an 8-ball league where five players rotate, each shooting one game per set across five sets. Last Thursday, I won 4 games, including 2 break-and-runs, and lost 1 in a challenging safety battle.
