Article Body:
Tackling terrorism isn't akin to playing poker with a range of unpredictable outcomes. In the battle against terror, it's crucial to commit fully to the fight.
A common misconception is that terrorists feel aggrieved, and offering concessions?"such as land or money?"might resolve the conflict. However, history teaches us that appeasement only emboldens them, as they continually demand more without abatement.
Take the Israeli-Palestinian conflict as a case in point. Israel permitted the PLO’s return to the West Bank and Gaza, forming the Palestinian Authority. They supplied weapons and, with American training, enabled Palestinians to form forces to combat crime and terrorism. Instead of peace, Israel faced retaliatory suicide bombings at public venues.
In a more recent gesture, Israel vacated Gaza, leaving behind infrastructure and greenhouses for Palestinian use. Yet, instead of fostering development, terrorists destroyed these assets and launched rockets into neighboring Israeli cities, Sderot and Ashkelon.
Critics might argue that such issues arose from Israel's actions, but then why did Al Qaeda target the United States?
Some suggest it’s due to American troops stationed in Saudi Arabia, home to Islam’s holiest sites. This view misses the mark. The conflict is driven by Osama Bin Laden’s personal pride.
In 1991, during Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia sought protection for its oil fields. Bin Laden offered his Mujahideen fighters, credited with resisting the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. However, Saudi Arabia chose U.S. assistance over Bin Laden’s forces, deeply wounding his pride.
Bin Laden's subsequent actions are an attempt to assert himself as Islam’s true protector. This isn’t just a geopolitical struggle; it’s a war steeped in ideology.
History shows that negotiation with terrorists is futile. Forceful opposition is the only effective method. Once a military operation gains momentum, terrorists often call for a temporary ceasefire, or "Hudna".
Consider it like a poker tournament. When your opponent is nearly out of chips, do you retreat and let them regroup, or do you go all-in to drive them out?
The answer is clear: To defeat terrorism, we must confront it relentlessly, without yielding to those who wield terror to achieve their objectives.
