Hometown Heroes Program Thrills Baseball Fans
Summary
Baseball enthusiasts are excited about a new program allowing them to choose the greatest player from each Major League Baseball team.
Article
Baseball fans are buzzing with excitement over a new initiative that gives them the chance to select the most outstanding player from each Major League Baseball (MLB) team. In collaboration with DHL, the official express delivery and logistics provider for Major League Baseball and MLB.com, the league has launched a program celebrating the game’s rich history by honoring the greatest player from each of the 30 MLB franchises.
Fans can participate in this exciting opportunity by voting for the most outstanding player in each franchise's history. The selection process uses specific criteria to determine who truly deserves the title of hometown hero.
A special ballot has been created for the Hometown Heroes program, featuring five players from each franchise. These nominees were chosen based on their contributions to their teams, assessed through criteria such as on-field performance, leadership, and character. Fans also have the option to write in a player they believe deserves the honor.
To promote the program, Hall of Fame players Johnny Bench, Cal Ripken Jr., Ozzie Smith, and famed player and manager Lou Piniella have teamed up with DHL, embarking on a multi-stadium tour during the second half of the 2006 season to rally fans.
How to Vote for Your Hometown Hero
Fans can vote for their favorite players between July 18 and September 17. They can choose from the five nominated players or write in a candidate of their choice for each club. There are no geographic restrictions for voting. Fans can cast their votes through several avenues:
- At all 30 MLB ballparks in the U.S. and Canada
- By texting “DHL” to 55222
- Online at MLB.com
Join in, and celebrate the storied legacy of baseball by honoring your Hometown Heroes!
