Summary

Article
David Lynes from Redditch and Steven Redgewell from Evesham, known as Team DevOcean, are set to embark on a 3,500-mile journey across the Indian Ocean. This monumental task marks their participation in the inaugural race organized by Woodvale, the same organizers of the 2005 Atlantic crossing by James Cracknell and Ben Fogle. The race, beginning in April 2009, will take them from the west coast of Australia to Mauritius.
Facing a grueling environment, Team DevOcean will contend with shark-infested waters and temperatures around 30°C. Their daily routine will include alternating between one hour of rowing and one hour of rest, potentially for up to 80 days.
David, a 27-year-old website consultant, shared how Steven, a seasoned amateur rower and web developer, inspired the challenge. "Steve kept asking about my fitness, and I soon discovered his plan to enter a rowing race across the Indian Ocean. I immediately agreed; I love a challenge, and though I’ve never raced before, this will certainly be a big one!"
Determined not just to participate, but to win, the duo aims to raise £300,000 for NCH the children's charity and Baraq Ministries. Over the next year and a half, their focus will be intense training and fundraising.
To kickstart their mission, Team DevOcean will host a launch party at Brindleyplace in Birmingham. Visitors will have the opportunity to see a life-sized replica of their boat and learn more about the monumental challenge ahead.
