When You Mess Up, Think of Isiah Thomas!
We all make big mistakes in life, but few compare to the blunders of Isiah Thomas with the New York Knicks. Even I’ve had my share of errors, but they pale in comparison.
Let’s not forget James Dolan, the owner and chairman behind some of the Knicks' struggles. These two masterminds brought about a major financial blunder by having to pay $40 million to their ousted coach, Larry Brown. Just last summer, Brown was given a five-year $50 million contract, full of high hopes to rejuvenate the underperforming team.
In fairness to Thomas, it was Dolan who hired him, even after his questionable tenures with the Pacers and Raptors.
Here’s what Dolan had to say:
"We hired Larry last summer with the expectation that he would be with the Knicks for a long time," said Dolan. "Sometimes decisions work and sometimes they don't. After careful consideration, despite the best intentions from everyone involved, this current structure did not work for us last season and I did not think it was going to improve next season."
As for Brown, he has collected a whopping $59 million in separation agreements from his last three teams: Philadelphia, Detroit, and New York. Rumor has it he’s got a home in the Hamptons near the Golden State Warriors' owner.
Who knows? Maybe Larry’s next stop is San Francisco!
