Getting Started with Pontoon
Introduction
If you're familiar with Blackjack, you might want to explore other articles on Pontoon on this site. However, this guide is perfect for those who are new to the game. Let’s help you start playing Pontoon in just a few minutes.
Overview
Pontoon is played with two decks of cards, shuffled after each hand. To begin, you place a wager. Both players and the dealer receive two cards each. Card values are straightforward: face cards are worth 10, number cards are worth their face value, and Aces can be either 1 or 11.
Objective
The main aim is to beat the dealer by getting as close to 21 as possible without exceeding it.
Game Mechanics
- Standing: If you’re satisfied with your hand, choose to stand and end your turn.
- Hitting: If you want to improve your hand, take a hit to receive another card. You can keep hitting as long as your total remains 21 or less. If you exceed 21, you bust and lose the round.
Special Rules
- Five-Card Trick: If you accumulate five cards without busting, you win unless the dealer does the same.
- Dealer Advantage: The dealer wins all ties and hits on a soft 17 (a 17 involving an Ace).
Additional Options
- Splitting: If your first two cards are identical, you can split them into two separate hands, placing an additional wager equal to your original bet.
- Doubling Down: Increase your wager and draw an extra card. Unlike in some variants, Pontoon allows you to keep hitting after doubling down.
Winning and Payouts
- Pontoon (Two-Card 21): Pays 2-1. For example, a $10 bet wins $20.
- Five-Card 21 or Below: Also pays 2-1.
- Other Winning Hands: Pay even money.
And that’s Pontoon in a nutshell?"the easy way to start enjoying the game!
