Fantasy Tip of the Week
Rise Above the Competition
We're about a third into the 2006 MLB season, and whether you're thriving or struggling, this period is essential. You know the categories where improvement is needed, and a smart strategy is to target players who've had a slow start but are poised to shine. Here's a list of batters to consider:
Batters to Watch
- Marcus Giles, 2B, Atlanta
Typically a .300 hitter, he's currently at .235. A perfect buy-low candidate.
- Manny Ramirez, OF, Boston
Known for 40 HRs and 130 RBIs, he's underperforming. Expect a big June.
- Juan Pierre, OF, & Aramis Ramirez, 3B, Chicago Cubs
Their value dipped after Derrek Lee's injury. Anticipate a rise in their numbers upon his return.
- Ken Griffey Jr., OF, Cincinnati
If he remains healthy, a power spike is likely.
- Todd Helton, 1B, Colorado
Now recovered from a mysterious ailment, he's set to send homers flying in the Mile-High air.
- Reggie Sanders, OF, Kansas City
Expect at least 15 homers and 15 steals in the coming months.
- Garret Anderson, OF, LA Angels
As the Angels' offense heats up, look for more RBI opportunities.
- Jeff Kent, 2B, LA Dodgers
Traditionally reliable for 25 HRs and 100 RBIs, seize the chance to benefit later.
- Cliff Floyd, OF, NY Mets
Struggling now, barely hitting over .200, but this won’t last.
- Alex Rodriguez, 3B, NY Yankees
Expect a breakout soon; he's too skilled to remain in a slump.
- Jimmy Rollins, SS, & Bobby Abreu, OF, Philadelphia
Despite their slump, the Phillies are doing well. Abreu is ready to break out, and Rollins should hit over .300 with at least 20 steals ahead. Grab them quickly!
- Jason Bay, OF, Pittsburgh
Already showing signs of improvement. Aim for those 20-25 HRs and 75-80 RBIs.
- Richie Sexson, 1B, & Adrian Beltre, 3B, Seattle
Expected power duo, yet to deliver. Anticipate a turnaround soon.
- Jim Edmonds, OF, St. Louis
With only 5 HRs, he's a solid candidate for a breakout, typically good for 35. Expect 25 more this year if he stays healthy.
- Carl Crawford, OF, Julio Lugo, SS, & Aubrey Huff, 3B, Tampa Bay
Slow starts due to injuries or performance issues. They're set to rebound together.
- Mark Teixeira, 1B-DH, Texas
With only 4 HRs, he's poised to lead the AL in homers moving forward. In Texas's heat, expect a hot streak.
- Jose Guillen, OF, Washington
A talented player if focused. Projected for 30 HRs and 100 RBIs. Worth taking a chance on.
Not every player will break out immediately, but their historical performances indicate potential. Stay tuned for next week's focus on pitchers who could be great additions.
