Key Terms

Las Vegas is divided into two main gambling regions: Downtown and the Strip. Each has distinct Blackjack rules. One crucial difference to be aware of is whether the dealer must hit or stand on a soft 17.
Money Management
Successful players know the importance of money management?"it’s more than just tracking your bankroll. It’s about knowing how much to bet and when, using various systems to guide your strategy.
Money Plays
This is a command from the dealer when a player places actual cash in the betting area.
Natural
A "Natural" is a winning hand dealt as Blackjack, featuring an Ace and a ten-point card.
Paint
"Paint" refers to face cards, which are visually distinctive due to their detailed illustrations.
Pat Hand
A "Pat Hand" is strong enough to stand on, such as a hard 17. This differs from hands with an Ace counting as 11 points.
Point Count
Card counters keep a "Point Count" to track the deck’s balance, adjusting their bets accordingly.
Push
A "Push" is a tie between player and dealer. You neither win nor lose, and your bet is returned. Note: Some games, like a double face-up game, may not allow pushes due to specific rules where the dealer wins all ties.
Resplit
If you receive two cards of the same rank, you can split them. Should you draw another card of the same rank, you may "Resplit." Rules vary, with some casinos allowing multiple resplits and others limiting them. Aces are typically split, but some casinos impose restrictions, only allowing one card per split Ace.
Running Count
Also known as a "Point Count," a "Running Count" is used by card counters to determine the deck’s current value. Bets are increased when the count is favorable to players and decreased when it benefits the casino.
