A New World Record Bass
Unlocking Record-Breaking Bass Adventures
Looking to snag a world record bass? These lakes might be your best bet!
A Surprising Bass Haven
While Florida is renowned for trophy bass fishing, did you know there are four other states with bigger state records? One of these states might even hold a new world record.
The Contenders
Florida's current record is a 17.27-pound bass. However, there are stories of an uncertified 20.125-pound catch. Meanwhile, in California, Leaha Trew allegedly landed a record-breaking largemouth weighing 22 pounds, 8 ounces?"surpassing George Perry’s 1932 record by 4 ounces. Unfortunately, due to a lack of certification and only one photo, it remains unofficial.
Where Will the Next Record Be Set?
Could it be Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, or Texas? Most likely, the new record will come from California. Enthusiastic angler Gregg Silks reports catching two bass over 20 pounds and claims he lost a 24-pounder. With 22 of the 25 largest bass on record coming from California, it's hard to disagree.
The Best Lakes in California
The lakes within San Diego's water system are particularly promising:
- Dixon: 21-pound, 11-ounce bass
- Jennings: Over 18 pounds
- Murray: Over 18 pounds
- Poway: 18 pounds, 2 ounces
And these are just a few examples! Bass over 10 pounds are not uncommon throughout California, including Sonoma County where Leaha Trew made her catch.
Plan Your Adventure
Before heading out, be sure to check with the local water district for any restrictions or closures. For more information on the San Diego lakes, visit [sdfish.com](http://www.sdfish.com).
California's lakes are proving to grow some of the biggest bass around. Happy fishing!
