Paintball: An Exciting Sport for EveryoneSummary:
You might be surprised by paintball’s increasing popularity in America, even though getting hit feels like being slapped with a wet towel or snapped with a rubber band. Find out why it's such a thrilling activity for so many.Article Body:
Paintball's fast-paced action and camaraderie make it one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S., as noted by the National Sporting Goods Association. Despite comparisons of being hit by a paintball to a rubber band snap or bee sting, enthusiasts like Bryan Vasaris underscore its stress-relief qualities. "It's about bonding with friends and safely letting loose," he explains. The game most often played is "capture the flag," where teams aim to capture the opposing team's flag while protecting their own. Players are "eliminated" by being hit with paintballs. Games take place outdoors in fields or forests, or indoors in specially designed arenas with obstacles. "It's a fast-paced action game, not just hide-and-seek," Vasaris adds.
Vasaris, a senior at the University of Cincinnati and president of its paintball team, has been playing since high school. He assures newcomers that getting hit isn’t as bad as it sounds. "After the first time, the adrenaline rush takes over," he says.
For those eager to try, Cincinnati offers numerous paintball facilities. A beginner-friendly spot is the Hueston Woods Paintball Club at Hueston Woods State Park.
Tom Arvan, the club’s general manager for 12 years, enjoys introducing new players to the sport. "I love seeing first-timers leave the field with smiles," he shares.
Hueston Woods is open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., offering two fields, including a wooded area with obstacles. The $27 fee includes a gun, CO2 tank, 200 paintballs, and protective gear. Players with their own gear pay $12. The fields can also be reserved Monday through Friday for groups of 15 or more. They cater to various events like birthday and bachelor parties, and even corporate team-building activities. "Corporate groups praise the team-building aspects," Arvan notes, emphasizing the friendship and sportsmanship the game fosters.
Arvan welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. "Paintball isn’t just for the young and fit," he says. "It’s a family affair?"we’ve seen grandparents to kids out here."
