Seeking answers, I visited my neighborhood Rabbi for some guidance. He led me to a window and asked, “What do you see?”
I replied, “I see people walking by, and a blind man begging on the corner.”
The Rabbi then directed me to a large mirror. “And now, what do you see?”
“I see myself," I answered.
He smiled knowingly. “You see, both the window and the mirror are made from glass. But when you add a thin layer of silver, the mirror only shows your reflection.”
Placing a reassuring hand on my shoulder, he continued, “Think of yourself like these two pieces of glass. Without the silver, you notice others and feel empathy. But when covered with silver, you see only yourself.”

Instead, the Rabbi’s wisdom suggests this: Through the lens of silver, we see only ourselves. Remove it, and we connect with the world around us.

We shouldn’t shy away from seeking wealth, but it's vital not to let it blind us. When we look at both mirrors and windows, we can balance self-focused ambition with empathy and compassion for others.
In essence, pursue financial stability, but don’t let it obscure the view of life’s true riches: relationships, health, and helping those in need.
