Amsterdam is a city full of wonders, and I dove right in from the moment I arrived. Despite being jet-lagged, my first stop was the Van Gogh Museum. The art was captivating, and I couldn’t wait to see it with my own eyes.
After the museum, I wandered through the bustling city center to do some shopping and grab a bite to eat. I had heard plenty about Amsterdam, and to my surprise, all those stories were true?"the air is thick with the scent of marijuana, and scantily clad women stand in windows.
But aside from the infamous scenes, I noticed something more in Amsterdam: the casinos. Growing up near Atlantic City in New Jersey, I’ve always had a fondness for the casino scene. Naturally, I decided to check them out.
I ended up spending much of my time in these casinos. The first one was filled with video gaming machines, from poker to blackjack to slots. Although luck wasn’t on my side there?"I lost around 100 Euros?"I moved on quickly.
The next casino was more upscale. Unlike the casual attire people wore in New Jersey, everyone here was dressed to impress. I decided to give blackjack a try, but one player seemed clueless, causing some chaos at the table. Instead, I switched to roulette. At one point, I was up 400 Euros, but as luck would have it, I began to lose, prompting me to explore the city once more.
The following day, another casino visit seemed like a promising adventure. I took my chances with a slot machine and, on the third spin, hit a 200-Euro win. Feeling confident, I joined a poker game. These players were skilled, but my winnings matched my losses, and I even left with a few extra Euros after hours of play.
After five hours at the table, I took a break. I decided to relax with a cup of coffee, but I learned quickly about Amsterdam’s café culture. In the city, a "café" serves coffee, while a "coffee shop" offers marijuana. While enjoying my coffee, I noticed others around me rolling joints and realized how openly marijuana is sold.
Curiosity got the better of me, and I purchased a joint of White Widow. The seller warned me it was potent, and he wasn’t exaggerating. I only managed half before I was overwhelmed by its effects?"much stronger than anything I had experienced in college.
After some fresh air and waffles, I returned to the casino, hoping to recoup my losses. Unfortunately, I lost another 600 Euros and even ended up falling off my chair, requiring assistance to leave.
So, if you plan to visit Amsterdam, beware?"the grass is strong, and the casinos are enticing. It was a thrilling and unforgettable vacation!
