Breaking the Ice
To decide who breaks, use the "lagging" method. Both players shoot a ball towards the far rail, aiming to get it back as close as possible to the near rail without touching it. The player whose ball is nearest gets to break. Remember, hitting a side rail is an automatic disqualification.
Setting Up the Rack
When racking the balls, ensure they're tightly packed. The lead ball should be on the foot spot, while the "8" ball is centered in the rack. Place the white cue ball behind the head string before breaking. Your goal is to break the rack with enough force to pocket a couple of balls, ideally a mix of "solids" or "stripes."
