The Jetsons DVD Review
The Jetsons: A Timeless Classic
If the Flintstones are known as the quintessential stone-age family, then the Jetsons stand as the iconic family of the future, complete with flying cars. Following the immense success of The Flintstones in 1960, Hanna-Barbera launched more groundbreaking cartoons, including Top Cat in 1961 and The Jetsons in 1962. Although The Jetsons was initially canceled after just one season on ABC, its charm endured through syndicated reruns on Saturday mornings, TV movies, specials, comics, games, and toys. The show's lasting popularity led to a revival from 1985 to 1988 with much of its original charm intact.
A Look into the Jetson Family
The Jetsons centers around George Jetson, a kind-hearted but bumbling husband and father who works for Spacely Sprockets, run by the demanding Mr. Spacely. Jane, George’s wife, manages their household with the push of a button, while their children, Elroy and Judy, portray a boy genius and a typical teenage rock-and-roller, respectively. Adding to the family’s dynamic are Rosie, the sarcastic robot maid, and Astro, their talking dog. With flying cars, futuristic homes, and automated gadgets, The Jetsons deliver all the elements of a classic animated series, rivaling The Flintstones in creativity and imagination.
The Jetsons DVD Features
The Jetsons Season 1 DVD includes several hilarious episodes, beginning with the premiere "Rosie the Robot." In this episode, George is persuaded by Jane to try out a robot maid named Rosie on a free trial, despite his concerns about appearing wealthy to his boss, Mr. Spacely, who is coming for dinner. Rosie impresses with her cooking, but a series of misunderstandings lead to George’s temporary firing and Rosie running away, only to become a permanent part of the family in the end. Other memorable episodes include "Rosie's Boyfriend," where Rosie falls in love with a ragged robot assistant, and "Miss Solar System," where Jane secretly enters a beauty pageant judged by George.
