To Think for Oneself
Introduction
When writing, should our primary aim be to inform, entertain, or enlighten? As a thinker, I believe enlightenment should come first. But what role does the reader play when engaging with a thinker's work? Let's explore this.
Exploring the Purposes of Writing
The three main purposes of writing are to inform, entertain, and enlighten. While entertainment is valuable?"it supports the other two?"my priority is enlightenment. Informing comes second. Let me explain, drawing on my book A Reason for Living.
Informing Versus Enlightening
In my book, I offer factual and theoretical insights about human physiology, nutrition, and universal evolution, aligned with current scientific understandings. While I act as a conduit for this information, my true focus is on enlightenment. I prioritize wisdom over mere knowledge of the material world. Conscience should guide science, offering moral principles that pure data cannot provide. Without this balance, we risk harming nature and violating human rights, as seen with some companies driven by unchecked greed.
The Role of the Thinker
As a writer, my role in conveying scientific facts is secondary to that of researchers who lead the scientific field with advanced tools and insights. However, as a philosopher aiming to enlighten, I take the lead. My work not only reflects wisdom but generates it through thoughtful reflection and experience.
Encouraging Independent Thought
Readers, too, can think independently. They can be philosophers, developing their own wisdom while engaging with mine. The insights in my book are intended to illuminate complex issues, prompting readers to meditate and form their own opinions. Since they have this capacity, I encourage them to use it.
