I spend a significant amount of time on my computer. Despite struggling with technology, I'm quite adept at using the keyboard. However, certain aspects of cyberspace can be incredibly frustrating.
First, there are those websites promising easy wealth just by signing up. If you believe that, I have a gold mine in Alaska I'd sell you for cheap.
While it's nice to think everyone is honest, that's not always the case. On April 24, 2007, I made a $127 purchase with my debit card. Almost immediately, I realized my lack of technical expertise would render it useless to me. I contacted the seller right away, and he promised a refund by the end of the week. It's now July 8, and I'm still waiting.
Then there are people who sell overpriced items simply because they have a well-known name, assuming others will buy based on that alone.
Even worse, in my opinion, are those who jump on this trend, offering massive bonuses if you buy the overpriced item from them instead. These bonuses often require downloads you'll likely never use, costing you paper, ink, and printer wear?"all for something that perhaps cost them a dollar to create.
As a book lover, I've spent a lot on them. A few months ago, I was tempted by an eBook from an unknown author, the title intrigued me, so I spent $97. After reading it, not a single word addressed my interest, and unsurprisingly, the author refused a refund. Needless to say, I've ignored his emails ever since. Once bitten, twice shy.
I'm not disillusioned by these experiences, but they have shown me the darker side of the Internet. To my fellow everyday readers, I urge you to be cautious when navigating online spaces.
