In this section, we'll explore web hosting and discuss the hosting company that I believe is the most user-friendly for beginners starting a home-based business. When I first began, I visited countless websites seeking the right hosting service. Back in my days as an office manager, the company I worked for used Yahoo Web Hosting. They never experienced any issues, and their customer support was outstanding (I know because I was the one calling them). Their technical support solved issues free of charge. While some may criticize Yahoo's service, my experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
Here's a crucial tip that many beginners overlook when launching a new website: your domain name provider should also be your web hosting service. If you purchase a domain from one company and hosting from another, you’ll need to contact them to change your registrars. This was a hassle for me initially. Eventually, I opted for both domain registration and hosting through Yahoo. They had my website up and running within five minutes of payment. Their domain registration costs $9.95 a year, and hosting is $11.95 a month. This is quite affordable if you’re on a tight budget for your home-based business.
To get started, visit Yahoo's website. Near the bottom left, you’ll find a link labeled “Small Business.” Below that, click on “Domain Names” to search for your business name. In Part 1, I mentioned using Google's keyword selector tool to find a name that garners plenty of searches. Once you've selected your domain name, Yahoo will guide you through their easy setup process. I recommend the $11.95 monthly plan, as it provides everything you need to launch your website. You can always upgrade as your business grows.
This is Part 2 of a comprehensive series on starting a home-based business. Stay tuned for future articles, where I’ll cover website design?"the next step after securing a web hosting account.
