Lingering Taste Of Stumbleupon Traffic
Below is a MRR and PLR article in category Internet Business -> subcategory Web Hosting.

The Bittersweet Experience of StumbleUpon Traffic
Summary
It all began with a spontaneous decision to "stumble upon" my own blog post on Kolkata Musing. The humorous piece, titled "Effect of Worms and Viruses," featured just 16 words and a quirky photo of a skeleton computer mouse from Funlok.
Being a leisurely Sunday, I thought, why not give it a try? My previous attempts to promote articles via StumbleUpon in categories like Offbeat News had resulted in little to no traffic.
However, this time was different.
The Experiment
Initially, I didn't have high hopes. Attempts with other platforms like Digg and del.icio.us had also been underwhelming. So, I approached this StumbleUpon effort with low expectations.
To my surprise, within 15 minutes, my site was flooded with visitors. This traffic surge continued consistently for about two hours.
Key Observations
With tools like PMetrics, MyBlogLog, and Google Analytics at my disposal, I managed to gather some intriguing insights:
1. Category Matters: Some categories like World News or Offbeat News need truly captivating content to attract immediate attention. In contrast, Humor or Bizarre categories tend to perform better on StumbleUpon. Another post in the Bizarre category saw similar success.
2. Captivating Headlines and Descriptions: A compelling headline and description can evoke curiosity, enticing visitors to click and explore more.
3. Short-lived Popularity: The traffic surge typically lasts only a couple of hours, indicating that once the story exits the first page of a StumbleUpon category, visitor numbers dwindle to a trickle.
4. Brief Visits: Most visitors don’t linger long?"usually less than a minute. This is expected since they are new to the site and might not find anything that holds their interest. It's unlikely they will return.
5. Revenue and Clicks: Visitors do click on additional links, including ads, which is crucial for me. With AdSense, clicks translate to revenue, so after the initial rush, I eagerly check my AdSense stats.
However, although MyBlogLog stats showed an encouraging 11% CTR in those two hours, AdSense reported only a 2% conversion. It seems that Google might filter out sudden traffic spikes.
6. Gains and Losses: Ultimately, I didn't gain any lasting benefits from the traffic spike. It's unrealistic to expect those fleeting visitors to return.
7. Bandwidth Concerns: The substantial traffic StumbleUpon generated did consume a significant portion of my bandwidth.
8. Future Prospects: Will I attempt it again? Absolutely, if only for the thrill of seeing those numbers spike. Who knows, maybe some visitors will return. No harm in dreaming, right? As long as StumbleUpon allows it, there's always hope.
In conclusion, while the traffic surge from StumbleUpon was exhilarating, it didn’t lead to long-term gains. Yet, the experience was thrilling enough to consider trying again.
