For example, Bush’s stance on the Iraq war frames it as a just cause, suggesting, “If you’re not with us, you’re against us,” and “It’s better to fight them over there than here.” These statements presuppose a necessity that may not actually exist. Meanwhile, many Democrats and a significant portion of U.S. citizens see the war as more about oil and no-bid contracts than about terrorism.
Framing can highlight the positive, the "silver lining." Martin Luther King Jr. framed segregation as a grave injustice, convincing many of its wrongness. Now, generations have grown up in integrated schools, unaware of such blatant inequality.
Reframing allows us to transform hardships into challenges, setbacks into moments of reflection, and victims into survivors. Embrace the power of reframing in every aspect of life.
