In April 2007, I managed about 10 websites. Of these, two were hosted on the same server and linked to each other. Surprisingly, while most of my sites saw an increase in PageRank, the two sharing a server did not.
A peculiar issue arose: the homepage of one site had a lower PageRank than its inner pages, even though all backlinks pointed to the homepage. What could explain this anomaly?
Typically, PageRank flows from one page to another when linked. Therefore, the inner pages should derive their PageRank from the homepage. Yet, there were no external links pointing to them.
After consulting various webmaster forums, I discovered that having the same IP address for linked sites could be the culprit. Some speculated this was similar to Google’s sandbox effect, but it didn’t quite fit, as the sandbox usually results in the site being removed from Google’s search results entirely.
The solution? Host your websites on different servers or acquire a Class-C IP address for each site. HostGator provides excellent SEO hosting services, which you can explore [here](http://www.hostgatorreview.org/hostgator/hostgator-seo/).
By taking these steps, you can enhance your site's visibility and improve its standing in search engine results.
