Every now and then, I stumble across a site that truly impresses me. Open Source Web Design (OSWD) is one of those gems.
As you might have guessed from the content on MyWebResource, I strongly advocate for using templates to streamline the web development process. As a designer, I enjoy creating free templates to contribute to the online community. However, there are times when inspiration runs dry, and that's when a resource like OSWD becomes indispensable.
I discovered OSWD while searching for template sites online, hoping for a spark of creativity during a creative block. After all, one can only create so many standard three-column layouts before craving something new.
Browsing through the OSWD directory, I was immediately impressed by the site’s clean design. Initially, I was a bit disappointed by the limited features, but that faded away as I explored hundreds of stunning website designs. Although I consider myself a competent designer, many of the templates on OSWD truly stand out.
What sets OSWD apart is its commitment to standards compliance. Most of the designs are at least W3C XHTML 1.0 Transitional and CSS 2.0 compliant, with many adhering to XHTML Strict standards. After years of exploring countless template sites, I can confidently say that such high-quality, standards-compliant offerings are rare.
Appreciating OSWD and its community reignited my passion for traditional "static" designs, despite spending the last couple of years focused almost exclusively on XOOPS themes.
Kudos to the OSWD administrators and community?"you've created one of my favorite resources. I believe every webmaster should bookmark your site to stay updated on the latest trends in standards-compliant design.
