In another instance, I redirected an expired domain to a new one using a 301 redirect. The new domain was indexed faster and had more pages indexed, but its PR dropped to 0. Additionally, I attempted a 301 redirect from a deleted domain with PR, but it produced no benefit.
Conclusion
The results of acquiring expired domains for PR are mixed. Here's what seems to work:
a. Expired domains can still generate traffic through existing backlinks. If a domain has numerous backlinks, it may still attract visitors.
b. Search engines like Yahoo and MSN don't appear to penalize expired or deleted domains.
