Nokia is set to host commercial Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) and Presence services for 3 Scandinavia, covering Sweden and Denmark. This collaboration aims to enable the operator to launch the service more quickly and efficiently, transforming mobile phones into walkie-talkies that allow communication with individuals or groups at the press of a button. The service is slated to launch in September.Notably, this agreement introduces the world’s first commercial Open Mobile Alliance (OMA)-compliant PoC service. It builds on Nokia's expertise in GSM/WCDMA 3G-based PoC, consumer behavior insights, and systems integration. These PoC services will be interoperable across all OMA-compliant wireless networks and devices. Nokia plans to operate the platform from its new Hosting Center in Vienna, Austria, set to open in September. Additionally, Nokia will provide 3 Scandinavia with Nokia Eseries business devices preconfigured with PoC settings.
