When I mention a "training collar," I'm generally referring to a pinch collar.

Regarding the "sit" command, it's important to give the command before applying any correction. Waiting to see if the dog complies first will inadvertently teach him that slow responses are acceptable, which isn't our goal. We want to instill quick, immediate responses.

Once your dog is reliably responsive and anticipates the command before the correction, you can scale back on corrections.

As for the invisible fence, I'd recommend waiting until he's around 6 to 7 months old.
