Celebrating Canine Heroes
Some dogs do more than just enrich our lives; they protect and serve us with unparalleled heroism as service dogs.
Exceptional Dogs Making a Difference

In collaboration with organizations such as the Delta Society, Guide Dogs for the Blind, and the U.S. War Dogs Association, PEDIGREE, along with Wal-Mart, has nominated five remarkable canines for this year’s top honor.

Visit www.pedigree.com/vote to see photos and biographies of the dogs and vote for the most deserving contender. If 100,000 votes are cast by July 14, 2006, a $25,000 donation will be made to the American Humane Association. The winner will be celebrated in a special ceremony this September.

- Hero: A Labrador Retriever, Hero regularly visits patients in hospitals, hospices, and nursing homes, inspiring “Project Hero,” which pairs young people in youth detention centers with canine companions.
- Rocky: Serving as an explosives detector at the Port of Los Angeles, this chocolate Lab is a vital part of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, screening thousands of international passengers, luggage, and cargo daily.
- Xena: A former shelter dog, Xena has completed rigorous training to become a guide dog, enhancing her human partner’s mobility, companionship, and quality of life.
- Polo: A German Shepherd recently returned from Kuwait, Polo is an Explosive Detection/Patrol Dog who inspects vehicles, buildings, and open areas for explosive threats.
