Dog Training Collars: Making Your Dog More Manageable
Dog training collars used to seem intimidating to me, especially the choke collars. Growing up, my dad used one with our dog for training. Experts often claimed that they were the most effective method.
Thankfully, my dad was gentle, giving only a slight tug to get the message across. However, I've witnessed others using them harshly, causing dogs to cry out in pain. Seeing a dog lifted by a choking chain is distressing and certainly not humane.
This approach seems contradictory to what I’ve read about dog training, which emphasizes positive reinforcement over punishment. Choke collars hardly align with teaching desired behaviors through praise.
While there may be other collar options available, choke collars remain prevalent. Disturbingly, I recently discovered some collars come with studs, causing additional pain. This method seems neither humane nor efficient.
Prioritizing kindness and understanding in training can create a better relationship between you and your dog.
