Cat FurnitureSummary:
Is your kitty clawing at your couch?Article:
When I first found the perfect couch for our apartment, I was both thrilled and worried. My cat, Binx, isn’t picky about what he scratches, and I knew my prized couch could soon resemble a shredded pincushion.
Whether you’re moving into a new apartment or have been living there for some time, introducing your cat to the surroundings can be challenging. It’s a good idea to keep your cat indoors for about one to three weeks to ensure he feels at home before letting him outside. During this period, if you can't supervise your kitty around the clock, you might come back to find your furniture?"like my bed's base?"attacked.
Declawing isn't an option, so I turned to cat furniture. A scratching post is a lifesaver, especially for indoor cats! Initially, I was skeptical about how Binx would respond to this new carpeted addition in the living room. Luckily, I had a catnip plant on hand!
Cats often go wild for catnip, though not all have the same reaction. If your feline friend ignores the new scratching post and prefers your couch, try breaking a few catnip leaves and rubbing them on the post. It took Binx a few days of sniffing to show interest, but once he caught on, I praised him each time he used it correctly.
Ensure the scratching post is securely fastened, as it could topple and scare your kitty off for good. I wedged ours under the TV cabinet and later the coffee table. I also removed the bell from the top of the post since it startled Binx whenever it jingled. The great news? He hasn't touched our new couch once!
Investing in cat furniture can save your own furniture?"and your sanity?"from your kitty's claws.
