Spend Smart aims to instill the importance of managing money wisely and the dangers of debt and credit card misuse before costly mistakes occur.
How It Works
High schools are encouraged to host Spend Smart community events. The program features:
- Eye-opening statistics on young people's debt.
- Budgeting exercises.
- A youth-led session for students.
- A session for parents with a financial expert.
Participants have the chance to win prizes, including:
- A $500 savings bond per event.
- Five $100 savings bonds per event.
- A $25,000 scholarship awarded across all events.
Through Spend Smart, teens gain valuable financial skills that can prevent lifelong debt challenges.
