It Just Takes a Little Creativity
Summary:
Parents of elementary or junior high-aged girls know the typical sleepover routine: pizza, games, movies, and late nights. But if you're ready to shake things up, a little creativity goes a long way. Here's how my daughters and I revamped our sleepover experience.

If you're a parent of an elementary or junior high-aged girl, you're probably familiar with sleepovers. Your daughter has likely both attended and hosted these gatherings. Yet, many of them seem strikingly similar. Gathered at someone's house, the girls munch on pizza, play silly games, watch movies, and stay up too late. My daughters and I decided it was time to add a twist, discovering that a bit of creativity transforms a routine night into something special.
I began brainstorming after hearing my daughters complain about the sameness of every party. So, one morning at our kitchen table, we unleashed our imaginations to plan an extraordinary sleepover.
Our first creative breakthrough? Hosting a themed party. With summer on the horizon, we opted for a beach theme?"a playful escape even when the season feels distant. Any theme can work; just tailor it to the time of year and the interests of your guests.
With our theme set, the next step was the menu. Our creative juices flowed, and we crafted a list of meals and snacks to enhance our beach motif. We'll serve frozen fruit drinks, exotic fruit kabobs, and other beachy treats. Instead of the usual pepperoni pizza, each girl will get to create her own personalized pizza masterpiece with toppings she chooses.
After sorting the menu, we turned our creativity to games and activities, steering clear of movies and TV. We decided on a hula-hoop contest and crafting beach bags from scrap fabric. We wanted the girls to explore their own creativity as well.
When you employ creativity, the sky's the limit for your next sleepover or party. Involve your kids in the process, and watch excitement replace routine. You might find yourself enjoying the fun as much as the kids do.
