Fiona Eastwood, director of Women Build, highlights the program's impact: "We've witnessed tremendous positive change, not only for new homeowners but also among volunteers. Women from diverse backgrounds are picking up tools to create a better future for our children and establish a legacy of volunteerism."
While Women Build welcomes women, it doesn’t exclude men. Instead, it encourages women to embrace new challenges and forge connections. Eastwood notes that many women feel more comfortable learning construction skills in an all-female environment.
A survey by Lowe's and Habitat for Humanity revealed that women are primarily motivated by the desire to assist children and families in need, as well as to enhance their communities.
Habitat houses are sold at no profit and financed with interest-free mortgages spanning 15 to 30 years. Payments contribute to the "Fund for Humanity," which supports the construction of additional homes. With Lowe's as the national underwriter, the Women Build program is set to construct over 150 homes this year, a 50 percent increase from last year.
"We're proud to partner with Habitat, supporting women who help families transition from substandard housing to a dignified home life," says Larry Stone, chairman of the Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation.
